L1.4.2: Preoperational Stage

Cards (3)

  • Preoperational
    Age = 2 - 7 Years old
  • Preoperational
    Children begin to think symbolically and learn to use words and pictures to represent objects.
    ● While they are getting better with language and thinking, they still tend to think about things in very concrete terms
    They also begin to become self-centered and struggle to see other perspectives.
  • Preoperational
    Children at this stage struggle with the concept of constancy:
    ● Taking a lump of clay and dividing it into 2 pieces, a child is given a choice
    ● One piece is rolled into a ball while the other is smashed
    ○ A child will likely to choose the smashed piece because it looks larger
