• Micronutrient Supplementation Program

  ● Administrative Order 2010-0010, also known as the Revised Policy on the Micronutrient Supplementation

  ○ Targets to reduce under five and maternal deaths and address micronutrient needs of other population groups
• Micronutrient Supplementation Program

  Package of micronutrient supplements in the right dosage, timing, frequency and duration should be provided to:

  ● 6-59 Month (4 Years 10 Months or 5 Years) Old Children

  ● Pregnant and lactating women

  ● Non pregnant and non lactating women of reproductive age (15-49 Years Old)

  Intervention of common nutritional deficiencies is important as they:

  ● Lead to serious physical, mental, social and economic conditions among children and women:

  ● Common nutritional deficiencies include:

  ○ Vitamin A (Eyesight)

  ○ Iron (Blood)

  ○ Iodine (Promotes Thyroid Function)

  Vitamin A Supplementation

  Provided under Garantisadong Pambata (Magbitimina A)

  Provided:

  ● Orally to the child every 6 months until they are 5 years old (Twice a year)

  Vitamin A is important for:

  ● Healthy teeth, skeletal and soft tissue mucous membranes and skin

  ● Known as Retinol - Produces pigments in the retina of the eye (for good vision)

  Food Fortification Program

  Established by R.A. 8976 (Food Fortification Program of 2000)

  ● Enhance nutritive quality of:

  (1) Staples (Mandatory) such as rice, flour, sugar, oil, etc. Ex: Rice fortified with iron

  (2) Processed Foods (Voluntary)

  ● Sangkap Pinoy Seal Program encourages food manufacturers to fortify their products. Ex: Hotdogs fortified with Vitamin A

  DEWORMING PROGRAM

  WHO? For children from 1 to 12 years of age.

  WHEN? Every 6 months:

  ● Common deworming months are in January or July.

  WHERE? Deworming happens usually in public schools that are in compliance with the Department of Health and Department of Education.

  WHAT is TREATED?

  Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (STH) - Most commonly Ascariasis (Ascaris Lumbricoides)

  ● Transmitted via contact with eggs in soil

  Those with Ascariasis usually appear thin, with a bloated stomach.
