L4.1: Fossil Fuels

Cards (2)

  • FOSSIL FUELS
    ● Formed from the living plants and animals that existed 500 million years ago. When living things died, they fall to the ground, swamps, lakes, and seas and then accumulated upon the layers of the earth. Due to the enormous pressure at these depths, the layers are crushed by the weight of the overlying rocks.
  • FOSSIL FUELS
    ● Intense heat and pressure and chemical reactions caused by the weight of plants and animals turn into hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons can be in the form of solid, liquid, or gas.
Coal is the solid form, petroleum or crude oil is the liquid form, and the gaseous form is called natural gas.
