• Type I Diabetes (IDDM)

  ● Insulin-dependent Diabetes Mellitus

  ○ An individual relies on the injection of insulin in order for the glucose to be utilized by the cells.

  ○ Evident impairment in the production of insulin produced by the pancreas.

  ○ The pancreas doesn't produce insulin.

  ○ An autoimmune condition caused by the body attacking its own pancreas with antibodies.
• Type I Diabetes (IDDM)

  ● No Insulin Production

  ○ Immune system attacks the islet of langerhans (cells) in the pancreas, leading to hyperglycemia.
• Type I Diabetes (IDDM)

  ● Risk Factors

  ○ Genetic

  ■ Juvenile Onset: appears early in life.

  ○ Environment

  ■ I.e., climate, latitude, UV exposures

  ○ May be acquired due to viruses and chemical toxins
