  • Gestational Diabetes (GD)
    ● Develops during pregnancy and is caused by pregnancy hormones
    ○ Such hormones may alter the activity of the pancreas, making it insufficient for the needs of the body.
    ■ Insulin is not working effectively
    ○ Usually goes away when the baby is born.
  • Gestational Diabetes (GD)
    ● Increases the risk of Type II Diabetes for the Mother
    Diabetes Tests are recommended/advised yearly to ensure the prevention of Type II DM
  • Gestational Diabetes (GD)
    ● Conditions
    ○ Mother: High blood glucose levels. Her body is not able to utilize the glucose.
    ○ Baby: The extra glucose goes to the baby, causing it to put on weight. (about 9 pounds)
