The Dynamics of Sects and NRMs

• While churches such as the Catholic Church and the Church of England have a history stretching over many centuries, sects by contrast are often short-lived organisations, frequently lasting only a single generation or less. Sociologists have therefore been interested to understand the dynamics of sect development. There is also interest in how the NRMs described by Wallis will fare in the longer term.
