what happens in SECOND READING ?
Second reading is the first debate on a Bill's main principles, usually two weekends after first reading. The Commons decides if the Bill should proceed, and it can have no debate.
what happens in COMMITTEE STAGE ?
Debate, amend, and vote on specific parts of a proposed bill.
what happens in REPORT STAGE ?
The report stage allows MPs to consider further amendments to a Bill that has been examined in committee, with no set timeframe between the two. All MPs can suggest amendments or new clauses.
what happens in THIRD READING?
Debate on the Bill is usually short, and limited to what is actually in the Bill, rather than, as at second reading, what might have been included.
what happens in OPPOSITE HOUSE ?
The Lords reviewCommons amendments, either agree or disagree, and if they disagree, the Bill is sent back to the Commons, and the Bill can be 'Ping Pong'.
what happens in ROYAL ASSENT ?
Royal Assent for a Bill is announced by the Lord Speaker in both Houses, and at prorogation, Black Rod interrupts Commons proceedings and summons MPs to the Lords Chamber.
