    • what happens in FIRST READING?
      The short title of the Bill is read out and is followed by an order for the Bill to be printed.
    • what happens in SECOND READING ?
        
      Second reading is the first debate on a Bill's main principles, usually two weekends after first reading. The Commons decides if the Bill should proceed, and it can have no debate.
    • what happens in COMMITTEE STAGE ?
      Debate, amend, and vote on specific parts of a proposed bill.
    • what happens in REPORT STAGE ?
      The report stage allows MPs to consider further amendments to a Bill that has been examined in committee, with no set timeframe between the two. All MPs can suggest amendments or new clauses.
    • what happens in THIRD READING?
      Debate on the Bill is usually short, and limited to what is actually in the Bill, rather than, as at second reading, what might have been included.
    • what happens in OPPOSITE HOUSE ?
       
      The Lords review Commons amendments, either agree or disagree, and if they disagree, the Bill is sent back to the Commons, and the Bill can be 'Ping Pong'.
    • what happens in ROYAL ASSENT ?
      Royal Assent for a Bill is announced by the Lord Speaker in both Houses, and at prorogation, Black Rod interrupts Commons proceedings and summons MPs to the Lords Chamber.

      Takes years to pass although some legislation can be fast tracked such as with coronavirus laws in 2020.

      Parliamentary law making process allows all these areas to be changed together to give a fresh start.  the criminal justice act 2003 which affected various different parts of criminal law.

      Too much control the current conservative government are prioritizing certain policies but this means that issues other parties would prioritise such as the environment may be left until last.

      Grenn papers stage and during the committee stage there is consultation with expert   
      . A green paper about childern mental health in 2017 attracted feedback from school parents and medical professionals
      Lack of time   
      Sometime are given limited times and sometimes debates are cut short when more time is needed when there are pressing matters such as brexit or corona often less urgent bills will have their debated cut short.

      To make law future proof it  is important  that minor details can be amended later on without needing to repeat the whole process- dangerous dogs acts 1991 dog breeds to be added
