Italian cafes had a positive impact on the social life of Scots. In 1903 there were 89 cafés Glasgow, which had increased to 336 by 1905.

As the Italian community became wealthier, organisations emerged that added to the style of Scotland, for example in the late 1920's the College of Italian Hairdressers was set up in Glasgow

Italian immigrants often started their businesses for example fish and chips shops and ice cream parlours which gave Scots a place to socialise as well as cafes which contributed to Scotland's growing leisure industry.
