Filament bulb

Cards (2)

  • What is the method of IV graphs for a filament bulb?
    • Measure potential difference using a voltmeter for a fixed current
    • Calculate the resistance using the equation voltage = current x resistance
    • Rearrange the equation to R = V ÷ I
    • Repeat for potential difference readings = 10V to + 10V in 2V intervals
    • Independent variable - Potential difference
    • Dependant variable - current
  • Filament bulb graph - If you increase the potential difference, you decrease the current. It is not directly proportional, so it is not an ohmic conductor. It begins to curve because the electrons gain kinetic energy and collide with vibrating ions more frequently. Causing distance and thermal energy being given off to the surroundings.
