    • during the Renaissance there was continuity about the causes of disease
    • this is because diagnosis and prevention of disease stayed the same
    • there was an influence of science which led to new medical ideas
    • however, most people still put medieval ideas into pratice when they fell ill
  • printing press:
    • the printing press was in medieval period but only started gaining traction in the Renaissance period
    • books could be printed rather than written by hand
    • books were more easily created so more were made and so more people could access them
    • this meant that more ideas could be spread easily
    • the printing press also meant that the Church could no longer control what was written in books, so could no longer control medical educations
    • this meant that physicians and scientists were able to publish their own ideas and challenge people like Galen
  • The Royal Society:
    • the Society was founded in 1660 in London
    • it was made to support scientists in carrying out experimental ideas and sharing new discoveries
    • the Society was supported by Charles II, which allowed for more popularity and credibility
    • in 1665, the Society issued its own scientific journal
  • humanism:
    • people started to believe about the importance of humans and moved away from the belief in religion and importance in God
    • humanists wanted to make the most of their lives on Eath and wanted to understand the world around them
  • science:
    • people began to observe and experiment more for themselves
    • Copernicus showed that the Earth revolved around the Sun - moved away from belief that the universe revolved around Earth
    • Vesalius used dissection to learn more about the human body and anatomy
  • changes in thinking:
    • people moved from not questioning Galen and sticking to traditional ideas to realising that he made many mistakes
    • after the Blakc Death, survivors were paid higher wages but in the Renaissance, the spare money was spent on educarion
    • people stopped copying knowlege and started to defeat and fought for new ideas
