  • personal identity is defined as how you see yourself. social identity is how others see you. Identity is usually identified through social groups, gender and age, or personal things, such as your name, accomplishments and traits. We construct our own identities, using the media for ideas and deciding who we want to be.
  • aspects of identity
    Aspects of identity have a crucial effect on how they see themselves and how others see them. These aspects of identity will vary in importance for different individuals. e.g. ethnicity may be more important to someone of an ethnic minority
  • hybrid identity
    ones sense of who they are is a mixture of 2 or more influences. this is seen in ethnicity, nationality and identity.
    e.g. someone may identify as a british person, but also muslim and pakistani.
    • Nayak - white wannabes - white british males who act, dress, speak in a way influenced by black hip hop culture.
    • Johal - Dual Identity (young asians adopt brasian identities and adopt a white mask to interact with white peers at school)
