Pure Substances and mixtures

• Pure Substance: A compound or element that is made up of only 1 substance
• Impure Substance: A compound or element that is made up of 2 or more substances
• How can you identify a pure and impure compound/element?

  Pure substances have specific melting and boiling points (fixed point) making it easier to distinguish which is which
• Fixed Point: Another name for a specific temperature of when something melts/boils/freezes
• Formulation: A mixture designed to produce a useful product e.g: Fuels, Medicine, paint etc.
