    • Mexico has natrual disasters such as hurricanes. When homes are unlivable people are forced to leave . If people live in a danger zone, people may move out of fear.

    • There are much better academic opportunities in america than mexico. This causes people to move for themselves or their children. More opportunities = higher paying jobs
    • Mexico's unemployment is extreemly high
  • Crime and violence
    • in Mexico, homiside rate is 29 per 100,000
    • Thousands of people have been killed due to drug crimes each year
    • Mexicans live in fear and hope america is a more stable place to live
  • Family and friends
    • Existing migrant communities (e.g Texas) pull people toward migration. These make it easier to move
    • People are enticed to move to be with their families
  • Mexico advantages
    • preasure on jobs is reduced therefor levels of unemployment will fall
    • preasure on local services such as education, healthcare and housing is reduced
    • Migrants will learn new skills and may then return to their home country
    • The birth rate is lowered so population growth rates will slow
    • Money sent home by migrants will boost local economy
  • Mexico disadvantages
    • Families were divided and the death rates may increase due to the ageing population
    • Active and most educated population left, which resulted in a skills shortage in mexico
    • Family members remaining in mexico may become dependent on the money being sent from america
  • USA advantage
    • Migrants will take jobs that the locals don't want and will work for lower wages which reduces labour costs
    • Migrants will enrich the culture of the area that they move to with language, food and music
    • Many migrants are highly skilled
    • The short-term gap in labour is filled
    • The increased population will result in an increase in the tax paid to the government, which can be invested in improving local services
  • USA disadvantage
    • Ghettos may develop in parts of cities and there may be a shortage of affordable housing
    • cost of providing services for migrant populations for their families will increase e.g healthcare
    • Migrant workers may feel discriminated against
    • unemployment rises for local people.
