1.3: Creation and The Nature of God in Genesis 1

• Genesis 1 is a poem that describes the creation of the universe, and shows the greatness of God as creator. God's power is shown in the effectiveness of his word
• God's transcendence is evident as God only needs his words to create and is therefore beyond humans and the created world
• God is believed to have created everything showing his love for humanity. This stresses the idea that God is the creator
• God made the world out of nothing, highlighting his omnipotence. He has the power to do whatever he wants
• Everything that God made is good. This reinforces the idea of God being omnipotent, as his power allows him to make everything exactly the way he wants it; nothing God makes has any imperfection in it
