• Birmingham New street station, which cost £700 million, has a shopping centre ('Grand Central') above it which created 1000 jobs
• HS2 will act as a catalyst for growth by creating a 'northern economic powerhouse' and will include players such as engineering TNC's, local and national government, and environmental specialists
• The new station for HS2, which is opening in 2026, will create 36,000 jobs, and generate £1.4 billion in economic uplift in the surrounding areas
