The hydrological cycle

Cards (8)

  • Evaporation
The process where a liquid is changed into a gas
  • Transpiration
A biological process by whoch water is lost from a plant through the minute pores in the leaves
  • Evapotranspiration
The total amount of moisture removed by evaporation and transpiration from the land surface
  • Condensation
The change in the atmosphere when droplets of water vapour cool and change back into liquid water
  • Precipitation
Any form of natrually occuring moisture falling from the sky
  • Overflow and run-off
The total of all the water that flows over the surface of the river basin, mainly flowing away within rivers
  • Infilltration and percolation
As the water moves through and seeps down the soil it may continue to move deeper into the rocks and settle down the water table
  • Throughflow and groundwater flow
Water dripping off one leaf or plant to another then flowing slowly bellow the water table through permeable rock
