    • salah - committing to daily prayer five times a day
    • sawm - fasting from dawn to dusk, especially during Ramadan
    • zakah - giving wealth to help poor, usually 2.5%
    • hajj - pilgrimage to Makkah
    • jihad - struggle to keep belief in Allah and defend Islam
    • khums - 20% annual tax, given to education and descendants of Muhammad who are in need
    • Amr-bil-Maroof - encouraging people to do what is good
    • Nahil Anril Munkar - forbidding evil by discouraging people from doing what is wrong
    • tawalia - showing love for God and for those who follow him
    • tabarra - disassociation from impure people and those who oppress others
    • the ten obligatory acts are followed by Shi'a Muslims
  • differences in salah between Sunni and Shi'a Muslims:
    • Shi'a Muslims will combine prayers, so will sometimes pray three times a day
    • Sunni Muslims only combine prayers for good reason, such as travelling
    • Shi'a Muslims will use natural elements, such as clay where they will rest their head
