  prominent lower strings - Db and Cello introduction, and extensive use of WW's + brass as S1 of 1st movt intro'd by oboes and clarinets in canon with the horns

  brass had no valves so were restricted to the tonic key

  programmatic 'thunder' created by dissonance in the lower stringgs whilst there are dramatic flashes of lighting in the higher WW
