Power and energy

    Cards (3)

    • Power:
      • Defined as the rate of energy transferred through a component.
      • P=P=ET\frac{E}{T} or can be P=P=VIVI
      • As V=V=IRIR , (P=P=I×R×II\times R\times I), which equals P=P=I2RI^2R
      • From I=I=VR\frac{V}{R}, P=P=V×VRV\times\frac{V}{R} : which equals P=P=V2R\frac{V^2}{R}
    • Kilowatt-hours:
      • 1kWh is the energy transferred by a device with a power of 1kw in one hour
      • 1kWh= 1000W×\times(60×\times60) = 3,600,000J
      • kWh->J= ×3.6×106\times3.6\times10^6
      • J->kWh= ÷3.6×106\div3.6\times10^6
    • Electron-volt:
      • 1eV is the work done when one electron is accelerated by a potential difference of 1V
      • E=E=QVQV
      • 1eV=1.6×1019×1v1.6\times10^{-19}\times1v = 1.6×10191.6\times10^{-19}
      • eV->J= ×1.6×1019\times1.6\times10^{-19}
      • J->eV= ÷1.6×1019\div1.6\times10^{-19}
