active transport

• active transport moves a substance from a more dilute concentration to a more concentrated solution therefore against the concentration gradient
• active transport in the small intestine:

  • e.g sugars use active transport to move from the lumen of the small intestine inside the cell - these cells have lots of mitochondria which use respiration to provide energy
• active transport in plant:

  • ions in the soil move into the root hair cell these have lots of mitochondria to provide energy
• plant cells use active transport to absorb mineral ions
