headland and bay

• 1. formed by differential erosion. softer less resistant rock eroded faster than harder resistant rock.

• 3. a headland is an area of hard rock this juts out into the sea. a bay is a sheltered area of softer rock between 2 headlands
• 4. often form in areas of discordant coastline where alternate bands of rock are at right angles to the coastline
• 5. constructive waves form a small beach in the sheltered bay between headlands
• 6. discordant bay eg. Swanage Bay
