sand bar

• 1. formed by the process of longshore drift, swash*, backwash*
• 2. a sandbar forms when a spit grows across a bays entrance, connecting two headlands enclosing a sheltered lagoon behind it
• 3. this happens when there isn't a strong flow of water from a river to the sea, over time the stagnant lagoon water is infilled by deposition
• 4. bars form when the coastline changes direction, allowing a sheltered area for deposition eg. Loe Bar
