• 2. forms when a sandspit grows out into the open water rather than along a coastline, this connects to an island
• 3. tombolo then joins the island to the mainland but doesnt reach very far
• 4. water is deeper,, taking longer to deposit and strong currents wash away the material eg. Twin Beaches
