protein synthesis

    Cards (2)

    • what is the process of transcription?
-the DNA unzips/uncoils, so we have 2 strands of DNA.
-the RNA polymerase binds to the DNA before where the gene starts.
-2 strands of DNA separate apart, so the bases are exposed.
-RNA polymerase will move along the DNA strand and read the bases one by one, to make an mRNA strand.
-RNA polymerase detaches from the DNA, once its read the bases, and forms a strand of mRNA, which is free to leave the nucleus and head to the ribosomes.
    • what is the process of transcription?
-the ribosome and the mRNA binds.
-the ribosome adds 1 amino acid at a time and this is brought to the ribosome by the molecule of tRNA
-the 'transfer-RNA' has a structure of an amino acid and anticodons, which has a sequence of 3 bases complimentary to the 3 bases on mRNA.
-the bases will attract this tRNA molecule.
-The ribosomes will move along the chain, until it reaches the end and detaches and the chain of amino acids fold to build a protein.
