  • What is the role of Correspondence principle in education?
    • (Bowles & Gintis) - The school system has part of the hidden curriculum which is utilised to socialise students to become obedient workers - School Mirrors the workplace. This is Correspondence Principle.
    • E.G - Students & Workers are expected to wear uniform , there is a hierarchy in school & the workplace.
    • It is believed that workers ‘must’ be obedient in order to keep the bourgeoisie in power and to maintain the capitalist system.
  • What re the evaluations of correspondence principle?
    • Post-modernists believe we are moving to a post-fordist economy, so the labour force is very different than that which has been described by Marxists.
    • Very deterministic and assumes students have no free will and accept indoctrination, and fails to explain why pupils do not follow school rules.
