Cards (17)

  • ATP a.k.a adenosine triphosphate
  • ATP is made up of 3 phosphate groups , one ribose and one adenine
  • The ribose and adenine in ATP is called adenosine
  • It only requires a small amount of energy to break the covalent bond holding the last Phosphate group
  • When the covalent bond holding The last phosphate group breaks , a great deal of energy is released , this is a hydrolysis reaction.
  • ATP is not a long term energy store
  • ATP is an immediate energy source , transferring energy nervy from the sites of respiration to parts of the cell which require energy.
  • The hydrolysis of ATP results to ADP and Pi
  • ADP is adenosine diphosphate
  • Pi is inorganic phosphate group
  • The hydrolysis of ATP is catalysed by the enzyme ATP hydrolyse
  • ATP is resynthesised by the condensation of ADP and Pi
  • in the hydrolysis of ATP , the reaction is catalysed by the enzyme ATP synthase during photosynthesis , or respiration
  • Hydrolysis of ATP:

    ATP + water -> ADP + Pi + energy
  • ATP : adenine, ribose and three phosphate groups
  • ATP hydrolase catalyses ATP -> ADP + Pi
  • ATP synthase catalyses condensation reaction between ADP & Pi during photosynthesis and respiration
