Types of Retailers

• Independent Retailer

  • Usually just have one shop as your local corner shop. However, they do sometimes join forces in order to buy in bulk and offer some competition to the larger chains.
• Chain Stores

  • Have a number of outlets spread across the country. These are usually well known.
• Supermarkets

  • Offer a wide range of groceries and more commonly clothing, household and electrical goods in their bigger stores. In-house restraunts allow customers to try product ranges, encouraging sales.
• Department Stores

  • Offer a range of different goods in the different departments within the store. They tend to specialise in higher priced premium products.
• Discount Stores

  • They tend to specialise in low priced products.
