    • Shows Mr Darcy's passion towards Lizzy, that he wants to be with her despite what he knows was arranged for him by, and his feelings remin unchanged even after rejection

    • Shows that Darcy is conscious of others' opinion of him and doesn't want to express her admiration publicly
    • He disrepects Lizzy's family, showing no sensitivity to her at all and expects her to be fine with it.
  • ' But that is one great difference between us. Complimets always take you by surprise, and me never.'
    'You are joking Lizzie! This cannot be... do anything rather than marry without affection.'

    • Elizabeth makes this comment, showing how outspoken she is compared to Jane, however she isn't putting down her sister.
    • Jane doesn't see how happy Eliza is by this proposal, showing she is blind to the happiness of her sister.
