      • CID paradigm: computer animation used to measure preferred interpersonal distance
      • the word "friend", "stranger", "authority", or "ball" appears on the screen for 1s
      • then P gaze at a fixed point, appears on the screen for 0.5
      • next screen: plan of a circular room with a stick person at the center, represent the P
      • next, animation that lasts 3s: stick person / circle (ball) - the protagonist - enters the circle from from 1 of the 8 doors around the edge before approaching the person in the middle
      • P has to press the spacebar on the computer keyboard when they want the protagonist to stop
      • total 96 trials, 4 protagonists apprearing 3x times from each of the 8 doors
      • interpersonal distance = % of distance remaining between protagonist & the central figure
      • low score = close proximity, high score = farther proximity
