    • roads are narrow and poorly built. road planning is neglected leading to bottlenecked roads, which causes congestion
    • No ring road, all roads connected to the CBD
    • Only 13 intersections in the CBD are controlled by traffic lights, causing commuting chaos
  • Population growth
    • rural urban migration has caused a boom in vehicle peopulation
    • about 700,000 vehicles on the roads
    • council cant build roads to accomodate the growth
  • Poor discipline
    • Drivers have next to no training. They do not follow the rules of the roads, which causes congestion at junctions
    • Drivers usually jump red lights and block intersections
    • Traffic law enforcement is patchy and drivers have no incentive to follow driving discipline
  • Alternative traffic means
    • People must use cars because there us no mass-transit systems
    • wosened by social stigma of walking or using a shared car, a car is a sign of wealth
  • Tighter budgets
    • Country is fairly corrupt, when the money should be being used to implement transport management.
    • Leads to pooer roads and little money actually working towards safer roads
