      • Sweat glands - help cool the body
      • Blood vessels in the dermis - Will dilate so that heat can escape through the skin. If cold these blood vessels will constrict and be kept away from the surface of the skin to conserve heat
      • Sebaceous glands - Provide oil and help keep the skin and hair waterproof. They also help lubricate dead keratinocytes.
      • Hair follicle - Found in the dermis, made of protein, and has its own blood, nerve and muscle supply. Lying on the dermis is the bulb if hair where growth takes place, the nerves and muscles surrounding the follicles give the hair tactile properties - muscles contract to give goose bumps when cold.
      • Nails - The base of your nail is part of the epidermis. While the nail body is made of dead keratinocytes and protect the sensitive tips of fingers and toes. The nail root has cells doing mitosis frequently and as those cells get pushed outward, the nail grows.
