  • Parent Act
    P- Effective

    DEV- Lays out rules about who has the power, what they have the power to do and the process to follow. It can be repealed if power is abused
    • Statutory Instruments Act 1946
    E- However the wording can be manipulated by bodies wishing to have more power
  • Positive Resolution
    P- Effective

    DEV- Ensures every law is checked by Parliament before its passed ensures that unnecessary laws are prevented. It also prevents abuse of power.
    • e.g. Dangerous Dogs Act 1991
    E- However this requires time which defeats point of DL
  • Negative Resolution
    P- Not effective

    DEV- Some laws may not be checked and become law regardless if they have issues. This can lead to bodies making law that don't align with Parliaments aims
    • e.g. Gaming Act 1968
    E- However this saves time for Parliament
  • Joint Select Committee
    P- Effective

    DEV- Ensures all statutory instruments are checked which discourages bodies bringing laws they don't have power for. Prevents abuse of power

    E- However over 3000 statutory instruments are being passed meaning they may not be able to view them all in depth
  • Judicial Controls
    P- Effective depending on case

    DEV- Only effective when case has someone that's challenging the law (Aylesbury Mushrooms). If there's no one case cannot be brought before court

    E- However cases that get to court are can declare void which is effective
