• the hippocampus is involved in infants but is not fully mature
• pre explicit memory is the reason why we cannot remember events from a much younger age this also may be because children are using different memory systems
• the serial reaction time task measures implicit learning by tracking response times to a repeating sequence of a stimuli
• reduced time to press the keys indicate learning
• this occurs without conscious awareness
• the hippocampus on the same task was used greater in adults compared to children so children have this memory but it is not as developed as adults
• rover and colier argue that changes in memory performance with age due not to changes in the brain but environment .
