    Legal aid agency removed family legal aid budget and drastically reduced legal funding.
  • Which cases does civil aid not cover and which does it cover?
    NOT Cover - Housing, immigration, private family cases, education(except special needs)

    Covers - Asylum, Environmental law, family mediation and mental health & welfare cases
  • What must be satisfied to be eligible for civil legal aid?
    Must meet the merit and means
  • What is the Merit?
    It considers the likelihood of the case being won, has wider public interest, if the likely outcome is proportional to costs.
  • What is Means?

    A financial test, D doesn't qualify if disposable income is over £733, but if it is £317-733 may have to pay contributions.
    Also don't qualify if they have over £8000 capital or mortgage is considered.
    Automatic qualification if on universal credit.
