Cards (3)

  • Atypical Sex chromosome patterns- Turner's syndrome is when a girl is born without a second X chromosome (XO). Physical features include- webbed neck, puffy hands and feet, underdeveloped breasts and irregular/no menstrual cycle due to the low levels of oestrogen. This can cause infertility problems.
  • weakness- nature/nurture debate, theory of atypical sex chromosomes has been critiqued for being biologically reductionist as it argues any individual with visible physical and psychological differences is as a result of their genetic make-up and overlooks any environmental factors
  • Strength- practical application- deeper understanding into the symptoms of these sydromes help with early detection as an Australian study found patients with either klienfelter's syndrome or turner's syndrome had significant benefits when detected in childhood as opposed to adulthood detection.
