Density and pressure

Cards (6)

  • What are the units used for density?
    kilogram (kg), kg/m³, metre (m)
  • What is the formula for density?

    Density = mass / volume
  • How can density be investigated practically?

    Place the object on a digital balance and note down its mass
    1. Use either the ruler, Vernier callipers or micrometer to measure the object’s dimensions (width, height, length, radius) – the apparatus will depend on the size of the object
    2. Repeat these measurements and take an average of these readings before calculating the density
  • What is the formula for pressure?
    Pressure = force / area
  • How does pressure act in a gas or liquid at rest?
    It acts equally in all directions
  • What is the formula for pressure difference?
    Pressure difference = height × density × g
