  • The posterior cuff test (external rotation against resistance) tests the infraspinatus and teres minor muscles - responsible for external rotation
  • How to perform:
    • Position arm with elbow flexed at 90 degrees and in slight abduction
    • Instruct patient to externally rotate arm against resistance
  • Interpretation:
    • Weakness = suggests tear
    • Pain = suggests tendonitis
