Findings

• findings separated into quantitative & qualitative data
• Milgram estimated 0.3% of partic would administer 450volts - wild underestimate
• large majority continued to highest level
• at 300volts 5 (12.5%) refused to continue - point where the learner made only protest
• 26/40 (65%) administered 450volts, other 14 (35%) defied experimenters authority
• nervous/tense behaviour

  'subjects were observed to sweat, tremble, stutter, bite lip, groan & dig finger nails into flesh'
• 14/40 showed nervous laughing & smiling, not sadistic, not enjoying harming the learner, nervous repsonse
• acting against their own values when punishing learner
• 3 partic had uncontrollable seizures, 1 partic had such violent convulsions that research session had to stop
