ectoparasite- lice

• signs and symptoms:

  • intense itching and scratching
  • visible lice or eggs in the fur- lice are small, wingless insects that live and feed off hosts skin
  • skin irritation- redness and inflammation
• diagnosis:

  • visual inspection of fur for lice and nits
• treatment:

  • medical shampoos or sprays
  • environmental treatment- treat animals living environment to prevent re-infestation
• prevention:

  • regular grooming
  • avoid contact with infected animals
