Contemporary Study = Bocchiaro -> obedience, disobedience + whistleblowing
What is ethnocentrism
when a sample only considers Ps from one area/culture meaning findings cannot be generalised to people in other places/cultures
Similarities between Milgram + Bocchiaro
both have high internal reliability
samples both ethnocentric
both high internal validity
both unethical
Differences between Milgram + Bocchiaro
Milgram is androcentric
Bocchiaro has higher ecological validity (students are at their own university)
Example similarities question
Example difference question
One difference between studies is that one isn't androcentric + one is androcentric - only accounts for men so the results cannot be generalised to women. For example, in Milgram's study into obedience used 40men + no females so his findings that 65% of participants obeyed are androcentric + cannot be generalised to females. On the other hand, in Bocchiaro's study into obedience, disobedience + whistleblowing used 96 women + 53 men so sample has nogenderbias + his results that 77% obeyed, 14% disobeyed + 9% whistleblew is generalisable to both men + women
