• Describe a longitudinal wave

  The vibrations are parallel to the direction of the wave
• Examples :

  • Sound waves
  • P-waves
• What do longitudinal waves do to the arrangement of the particles in a medium they pass through?

  Squash them up and stretch them making compression (high pressure) and rarefractions (low pressure, less particles)
