dual-aspect monism

• dual-aspect monism is that view that mind + matter are two aspects of one unknown substance
• the one entity suggested by dual-aspect monism is unknown but has two aspects to it

  • the brain is observable by science + is purely physical
  • the mind consists of subjective consciousness
  • all forms of dualism + concepts of the soul are redundant
• evaluation of dual-aspect monism:

  • can be seen to provide an answer to the issues raised by both dualism + physicalism
  • can combine with process theology to provide a different but clear view of life after death - perhaps through objective immortality, where every persons experiences would be remembered forever in the mind of God
  • quantum theory also helps in describing the complementary relationship between mind + matter
