  • What is a Hypothesis?
    States the relationship between the variables being investigated (which should be operationalised). This should include:
    • A relationship/difference
    • IV and DV
    • Operationalised
  • What is an Aim?
    A general statement about what the researcher intends to investigate (the purpose of the study).
  • What are the 2 types of hypothesis and what do they mean?
    • Alternate: There will be a relationship.
    • Null: There won't be a relationship.
  • What are the 2 types of alternate hypothesis and what do they mean?
    • Directional: Clear which direction the results will go in.
    • Directional hypothesis is used if there is previous research which has produced consistent results.
    • Non-directional: There will be a difference, but doesn't specify results.
    • Non-directional hypothesis is used if there is no previous research with no consistent results.
