  • What are the 4 types of experiments?

    • Laboratory experiments
    • Field experiments
    • Natural experiments
    • Quasi experiements
  • What does the Laboratory experiment means?
Takes place in a controlled environment within which the researcher manipulates the IV and record the effect on the DV, whilst controlling the EVs.
  • What does Laboratory experiment mean?
Takes place in a controlled environment within which the researcher manipulates the IV & records the effect on the DV, whilst controlling EVs.
  • What does Field experiment mean?
Takes place in a natural setting within which the researcher manipulates the IV & records the effect on the DV.
  • What does Natural experiment mean?
Naturally occurring variables which are external.
  • What does Quasi experiment mean?
Naturally occurring variables which are internal.
  • 4 types of experiments
  • What does Experimental designs mean?
The way you organise your participants between the conditions of the IV.
  • What are the 3 experimental designs and what do they mean?
    • Repeated measures: Only one group of participants, which takes place in both conditions.
    • Independent groups: Separate groups of different participants, one uses condition A and the other uses condition B.
    • Matched pairs: 2 separate groups are matched into pairs for certain qualities. One of each pair takes part in condition A, and the other in condition B.
  • Positive and negatives about Repeated measures, Independent groups and Matched pairs.
  • What does Random allocation mean?
When you randomly choose which participant goes in which condition.
  • What does Order effects mean?
Where participants must repeat conditions, which may result in a change in personality (fatigue, boredom, or they figure out the condition).
  • What does Counterbalancing mean?
Change the order in which participants do the conditions to help reduce order effects.
