AO3 - CGI interactions

    • how does Isabella et al. (1989) support synchrony?
      • her observations showed that infants who engaged in more synchrony with their mothers tended to have more secure attachment.
      • supports the role of IS being associated with better attachment quality.
      • however, observations are assumptions so infants' actions are uncertain.
    • how is this theory socially sensitive?
      • research may lead to assumptions of the ideal CG behaviour - socially pressuring parents to conform to interaction patterns.
      • leads to negative consequences e.g. guilt for parents and makes them feel they're not ideal parents.
      • while important, these findings must be carefully communicated to avoid patronising non-typical CGs.
    • how does it lack external validity?
      • studies like Meltzoff & Moore (1997) used small & specific samples of infants - lab settings may not reflect real-life CG interactions.
      • raises concerns whether findings from controlled environments can be applied to natural & daily CG contexts.
      • thus, questioning population & ecological validity.
