  • Intro
    A synthesiser pad drone establishes the key. This uses filter sweeps to create the atmosphere.
    A talking drum joins in but there is no clear metre.
    The shaker starts to introduce a regular rhythm but the pulse isn’t clear until the bodhrán enters.
    Male African spoken vocals can be heard.
    Towards the end a kora riff can be heard over the loops.
  • Verse 1
    Sinéad O’Connor sings this verse. It is in English and is made up of 8 bar sections.
    During the second section the instrumentation builds up.
    In the last section the ascending chromatic line is introduced
  • Break
    8 bars of bodhrán, Bass guitar, percussion and breath sample
  • Verse 2
    Iarla Ó Lionáird sings this verse in Gaelic.
    The phrases are split slightly differently to the first verse. The phrases generally anticipate the beat creating syncopation.
    In the last part of the verse the bass drops out.
  • Solo 1
    The uilleann pipes play an eight bar solo.
    In the second half the tin whistle joins in.
  • Solo 2
    The low whistle plays its solo over the ascending chromatic line.
    The bass drops out and the bodhrán part becomes simpler
  • Break
    2 bars of a repeated vocal sample
    Accordion plays a driving rhythm while the other parts drop out.
  • Solo 3
    Hurdy gurdy solo with vocal sample added
    The bass and percussion parts come back in.
  • Verse 3
    The hurdy gurdy solo sample continues
    The uilleann pipes join in during the second line
    The lyrics are a mixture of verse 1 & 2: line 1 & 2 in English, Line 3 in Gaelic

    4 bars of bodhrán, bass guitar and percussion
    Loops of plucked instruments and electronic instruments added.
