  • what happens during metaphase?
    • each chromosome is a pair of chromatids joined at the centromere
    • the centromere attaches to the spindle fibres so that the chromosomes are aligned on the equator
    • if the cell is viewed from the pole, the chromosomes appear spread out, but if the cell is viewed from the side, the chromosomes appear in a line
