  • what happens during anaphase?
    • its a very rapid stage
    • the spindle fibres shorten and the centromeres separate, pulling the now separated chromatids to the poles, centromere first
  • why do the spindle fibres shorten during anaphase?
    the microtubules that mark up the spindle fibres are polymers made of the protein tubulin - spindle fibres shorten because some of the tubulin is removed, from the centriole end
