cell division

Cards (6)

  • what are the stages of the cell cycle?
interphase:-growth phase 1 = growth of cells and synthesis of organelles-synthesis phase = replication of dna-growth phase 2 = cell checks dna and any makes any repairs. cell organelles grow and divide. energy stores increased. cell prepares for division
    nuclear division (mitosis)
    cytoplasmic division
  • what are the 4 stages of mitosis?
    prophasemetaphaseanaphasetelophase
  • what is prophase?

chromatin condenses into chromosomes and the nucleolus disappears.
  • what is metaphase?

the chromosones line up along the metaphase plate (equator). the spindle fibres released from the poles now attatch to the centromere and chromatid
  • what is anaphase?

the centomeres divide in 2 and individual chromatids are pulled to opposite poles of the cell. they are now referred to as chromosomes
  • what is telophase?

chromosones at each pole begin to become longer and thinner and eventually disintergrate forming nucleus.the cytoplasm then splits and 2 genetically identical cells are produced.
