We are born with 23 pairs of chromosomes that have been inherited from our parents. These are our genotype and form the basis of our development. Behavioural geneticists believe that there may be a genetic underpinning for certain behaviours. And that behavioural characteristics such as intelligence, personality and mental disorders are inherited in the same way as physical characteristics such as height and eye colour.
